The West Gonja Municipal Assembly, in partnership with Expertise France under the Sustainable Cities Project – Phase 1, has successfully held a two-day performance review workshop to evaluate progress on its 2022–2025 Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP).
The workshop, which took place in Damongo, convened a diverse group of stakeholders, including traditional authorities, departmental heads, institutional representatives, and civil society organizations. The primary goal was to assess the Assembly’s development efforts, identify existing challenges, and realign strategies in preparation for the 2026–2029 MTDP.

In his welcome address, Mr. Mustapha B. Adam, the Municipal Coordinating Director, underscored the importance of the review. He emphasized that evaluating the Assembly’s performance in project execution and service delivery is vital to improving the quality of life for residents. He urged participants to engage meaningfully and contribute ideas toward crafting a forward-looking, inclusive development plan.
Delivering a key presentation, Prof. Owusu Amponsah, a consultant with the Sustainable Cities Project, spoke on the transformative power of sound development planning. He noted that consistent implementation, active monitoring, and transparent evaluation are critical to building public confidence, attracting investment, and enhancing urban living standards.

Prof. Amponsah further elaborated on the Secondary Cities Project—an integral part of the broader initiative—which aims to reinforce integrated urban planning, promote inclusive governance, and improve service delivery in areas such as waste management, potable water access, and recreational infrastructure. He expressed optimism that the participatory approach adopted by the Assembly would lead to more equitable and impactful development outcomes.
The Sustainable Cities Project – Phase 1 is designed to promote green economic growth, enhance urban resilience, improve access to essential services, and strengthen local governance across Ghana’s secondary cities.
The workshop concluded with focused group discussions and a collective resolve among stakeholders to build on the insights gained and develop a robust, people-centered 2026–2029 Medium Term Development Plan.
