The West Gonja municipality is embracing itself for the kick start of a district cassava processing factory within the first quarter of 2023. One of the governing NPP’s flagship programs is the One District One Factory (1D 1F) program.
Musah Kusubari, the Hon MCE for West Gonja municipality in the Savannah region explained the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative is the vision of His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to change the nature of Ghana’s economy from one which is dependent on import and export of raw material to one which is focused on manufacturing, value addition and export of processed goods. These raw materials are largely found in the districts which would have otherwise gone waste.
He added that the construction of one District One Factory structure in the municipality is completed and the office is working on extending electricity to the site.
“I can assure the people that the construction of the structure is completed and equipment for the kick start of factory are already secured. These equipment, he asserted will be brought in when electricity connectivity is done.
This will provide market for cassava produced by farmers in the area as well as increase employment avenues”.
Musah Kusubari also disclosed to PAD FM at his office in Damongo that since the agricultural sector contributes hugely to the sustainable development of the country, the assembly is ready to establish a cattle market in the municipality.
According to him, a lot of cattle leave Damongo and its environs to Buipe, Techiman, Kumasi and other places. The assembly has therefore, reached out to the authorities in the Busunu traditional area and the Buusunuwura gave out piece of land to be cleared by the assembly to start cattle market early 2023 around Langatere, a farming Community in the area.
Accessible roads in the area to help boost agriculture is one other area the assembly focuses on. To help improve accessibility to farmers in the area, roads around Langatere, Batigbonto, Grumakura and other surrounding communities will be worked on to open up the place.
Musah Kusubari commended the staff of the assembly and appealed to them to keep hopes high as government works around the challenges to improve their welfare.
The people living with special needs (People Living With Disabilities) also received their fair share of the common fund received by the assembly and the second support to the members of the association will be rolled out this December 2022. This time around about twenty (20) of them will receive their support before Christmas this year.
