On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, a delegation of prison officers from the Prisons Headquarters paid a visit to the Municipal Assembly. During the visit, they met with the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Mustapha Adam and several staff members of the Assembly.
The primary purpose of the visit was to discuss matters related to the newly constructed district prison facility. The officers shared details regarding the expected number of inmates (300) and staff (150) that will be stationed at the facility. They also highlighted several challenges currently facing the facility, including poor road conditions, inadequate water supply, and the absence of street lighting on the road leading to the prison—posing a risk, especially at night.
The delegation appealed to the Municipal Assembly and Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro for support in addressing these issues to ensure the smooth operation of the facility and to enhance its integration into the community. They emphasized the potential benefits the prison could bring to the district, including job creation and improved security.
In response, the Municipal Chief Executive and the Coordinating Director expressed their commitment to supporting the initiative and extended their appreciation to the officers for the visit. The meeting concluded with the presentation of gifts to the visiting delegation.
