Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for the Damongo constituency, reiterated his commitment to ensuring the completion of the Damongo Water project.
Mr. Jinapor, who also holds the position of Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, affirmed this assurance during his official acceptance as the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party for the constituency in the upcoming 2024 elections, which took place on Saturday, February 17. He stated that construction will soon commence.
Facing criticism for the government’s failure, of which he is a cabinet minister, to deliver the water project, which was a significant campaign promise during the 2020 elections, Mr. Jinapor has been under pressure. Despite the ground-breaking ceremony conducted by the President in 2020 with the pledge to provide piped water for the Savannah regional capital before the elections that year, the project has yet to materialize. Despite numerous assurances and proposed deadlines from government officials, including the MP and the vice president, Mr. Jinapor has resorted to providing water to some residents via tankers, leading to significant public scrutiny.
Addressing the gathering at the Damongo Community Centre, where he was endorsed as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor mentioned that a cheque has been issued to the contractor to initiate work on the water project. However, he did not specify when the contractor is expected to commence work or whether the water project will be completed before the upcoming December polls.
