Representing the Damongo South Circuit, Kurabaso Junior High School “A” emerged as the standout victor among competitors from five other circuits, securing the esteemed title at the 2024 West Gonja Municipal Annual Science and Maths Quiz competition.
This year’s event, themed “Women and Girls in Science Leadership: A New Era for Sustainability,” underscored the importance of empowering women and girls to take on leadership roles in the realms of science and mathematics.
Speaking to the audience, the Municipal Education Director highlighted the invaluable contributions of women and girls to the fields of science and mathematics. He emphasized the theme as a rallying cry, urging active engagement and leadership from women and girls. He advocated for the dismantling of stereotypes and biases, envisioning a future where gender poses no obstacle to success in STEM careers and leadership roles.
Baba Munira, the Municipal STEM Coordinator, echoed these sentiments in her address, stressing the need for inclusive access to science, mathematics, technology, and innovation for sustainable development. She called for a united effort from individuals, officials, sponsors, and philanthropists to bolster academic performance, particularly for girls pursuing STEM professions.
In addition, this year’s competition received sponsorship from Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo, demonstrating his commitment to advancing academic excellence and promoting gender inclusivity in STEM education.
