Damongo, October 12, 2021 – The Assembly Member for Hangaline, Ngbaripe and Alhassankura electoral area in the West Gonja municipality of the Savannah region, Hon. Rashid Sumaila (Atalia) has on behalf of World Vision, handed over learning materials, jerseys and footballs to some selected schools within his electoral area within Damongo township.
The events took place on Monday 11th October, 2021, at the premises of the selected beneficiary schools.
The intervention came as a result of a World Vision donar sponsorship program known as Community GN (Gift Notification) which comes direct to the registered child (RC) where 25% out of every 100 dollars for the registered child goes to the community in which the registered child belongs.
The 25 percentage amount is allowed for a period of six months to accomulate and later disbursed to the opinion leaders of the community where the registered child belongs with a budget indicating how the amount will be used.
Every sponsored child on this intervention program then receives 75% of the amount for his/her basic needs and for situations where a registered child receives 200 dollars, fifty percent (50%) of the amount is reserved for the community. At the end of the six months, the number of children who receive the GN (Gift notification) will be multiplied by the percentage and disbursed to the community to take up a project.
The motive behind this deductions is to extend this intervention to children who are also on this sponsorship program but not privileged to have been receiving their direct support from the donors.
With broader consultations with opinion leaders, it is believed that when community members utilize the money judiciously, the yet to receive support registered child will also benefit from their lucky colleagues already benefiting from this intervention from the World Vision Ghana child sponsorship program.
Schools that benefited from this intervention were Jafo primary School block A & B and Jakpa D/A primary School.
