The MCE for West Gonja Municipal Assembly Hon Karim Musah Kusubari has taken some steps in ensuring that he gets portable drinking water for the people of Damongo and its surrounding communities.
Hon Karim Musah Kusubari has invited the Ghana Water Company to come and tap water from a very high yielding borehole at Broto community to serve the people of Damongo for the mean time as they await the main Damongo water project to kick start.
According to Hon Karim Musah Kusubari, the water crisis in Damongo is a big worry to him hence he visited the office of the managing director of Ghana water company and pleaded with him to do something about the water crisis in Damongo to mitigate the situation as they await the bigger Damongo water project which will be carried out later next year.
Officers from the head office of Ghana water company and the contractor together with the West Gonja MCE on Monday 13th December, 2021 visited the Broto Community high yielding borehole to see how the water will be tapped Damongo.
Speaking to savannaghnews.com, the Northern/Savannah Regional Director of Ghana Water Company Mr. Amidu Musah said they have come to take samples of the water for testing and to see what treatment they need to give to the water before tapping the water from Broto Community to Damongo.
According to the Northern/Savannah Regional Director of Ghana Water, the water from the Broto Community borehole is enough to serve the people of Damongo township but can’t serve the whole West Gonja Municipality.
He was quick to add that this particular project will only solve the water problem in Damongo alone but the main water project which has also been awarded to a contractor and will be commencing fully later next year will entirely solve the water crisis in the West Gonja Municipality.
The executive director DANANK ENGINEERING CO. LTD Ing. Dr. Daniel A. Ankrah whom the contract has been awarded to, said they will be tapping the water to the already existing overhead tanks in Damongo and that they will also construct standpipes at vantage places in Damongo where the public can fetch water from.
Dr Daniel A. Ankrah said it will take DANANK ENGINEERING CO. LTD about four months to complete the project.
