On Friday, January 19, 2024, Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, conducted a visit to Ngbaripe, a suburb of Damongo, to assess the progress of an ongoing storm drainage project. Accompanied by the West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, the newly elected Assemblyman for the area, and several party officials, MP Jinapor expressed contentment with the ongoing construction undertaken by Ashcal Construction and Engineering Company Ltd. He conveyed optimism that the project, which he had facilitated, would be completed as planned, providing relief to the residents of Ngbaripe.

MP Jinapor emphasized that the finalized drainage project would effectively put an end to the perennial flooding issues that have afflicted the Ngbaripe-Almanara community in the West Gonja Municipality. He highlighted that residents, who had endured annual threats to their lives, especially during the rainy season, would soon experience relief as the project approached completion. Recalling the challenges faced by residents in the past during the rainy season, with the aged erosion gutter encroaching upon their homes, Hon. Jinapor noted the imminent respite for the community.

The Member of Parliament revealed that he had facilitated the project through the local government ministry and the infrastructure department of the government’s secondary city project, benefiting the West Gonja Municipal Assembly. He underscored the ongoing construction as a testament to the government’s commitment to governance and development processes in the country.

The storm drainage project had been officially handed over to Ashcal Construction and Engineering Company Ltd on November 17, 2023, by Hon. Musah Karim Kusubari, the Municipal Chief Executive of West Gonja. Initially aimed at addressing the long-standing Ngbaripe-Almanara aged erosion gutter with a six-month timeline, the Project officer has indicated the potential for completion in three months due to the availability of necessary resources. This project marks a significant stride in safeguarding the community from the annual threats posed by the erosion gutter.
