As a results, 300 electricity poles have been procured to facilitate the project whiles efforts are underway to construct a120-seater multipurpose library.
District Chief Executive (DCE) of West Gonja, Saeed Muhazu Jibril who disclosed these on a local radio station, PAD fm’s political program mentioned the expected beneficiary communities such as Busunu, Laribanga, Sabon Zongo and Abinga Kura.
According to him the project which will be fully funded from the District Development Fund (DDF) is in direct response to the many concerns received from the residence about the lack of electricity to enhance their economic activities.
Mr Saeed M uhazu stated that the project will be in two divisions, the supply of electricity poles and suspending of the cables on the poles to enable residents to easily tap electricity into their homes instead of going to buy the electricity poles on their own at very expensive prices.
“…So, the contract is in two parts; supply of electricity poles and also, stringing of the cables for people to be able to receive their electricity. Then also, we also looking at how other people, because the money is soo small, we can’t string the whole town or areas that we have agreed on to string.
So, what we are going to do is that, we are going to mount or put up the poles up to points where transformers or the citizens can easily tap the power on their own, instead of going to buy the poles. You know the poles have become expensive…So what we are going to do is that, we are going to mount those poles, so individuals can easily buy cables in connection with the VRA so that they can get lights into their areas,” he stated.
The DCE also alleged that the previous regime procured about 200 substandard poles hence the reluctance of officials of the Volta River Authority (VRA) to mount them in the District for fear of breakdowns.
On the 20-seater capacity library project which will also be funded through DDF, Mr Saeed Muhazu said it will be a multipurpose facility with an office of about 20 computers with internet connectivity is expected to be located around the GES District office.
