Gertrude Yentumi, the West Gonja Municipal Director of the Ghana Health Service says the Municipality recorded 35 suspected measles cases across 13 communities.
77 percent of the children were not vaccinated with MR, she added.
Madam Gertrude said this during the annual performance review meeting of the Ghana Health Service of the West Gonja Municipal.
The event took place at the Conference Hall of the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council in Damongo on Thursday, March 9, 2023.
The health director emphasized that public sensitization and effective surveillance systems need to be intensified to curtail the situation.
On Covid-19, 115 suspected cases were recorded during the period under review out of which 25 tested positive and were treated and discharged.
In terms of vaccination, she disclosed that 83% of the total population have taken at least one dose whilst 67% are fully vaccinated against the disease.
Despite the difficulties, she stressed that the Municipal Health Directorate has recorded some good improvements in health care indicators during the year under review.
For instance, malaria under 5 cases reduced from 88% in 2021 to 71% in 2022.
Also, the Directorate recorded an IPT 3 coverage increase from 42% in 2021 to 54% in 2022.
She mentioned staff indiscipline, inadequate number of some health professionals, lack of basic equipment such as HB machines in some facilities as some of the challenges confronting the service in the Municipality.
