The 20th Anniversary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was joyously marked by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in the Savannah region through a vibrant public awareness campaign held in Damongo. On Thursday, November 30, 2023, NHIA staff and various organized groups engaged in a series of activities, including visiting offices, departments, and agencies, as well as parading through the main streets of Damongo. The primary focus was on promoting the MyNHIS App, and the teams actively assisted individuals in downloading the application.
During an interview with Padfm, Chief Dauda Mahama, the Regional Director of NHIA, highlighted the MyNHIS App’s convenience, emphasizing its ability to enable individuals to easily register or renew their health insurance from the comfort of their homes, utilizing the Ghana card.
In pursuit of Universal Health Coverage, the NHIS is strategically collaborating with international communities, employing approaches such as digitalization, data management, dissemination, development, and decentralization.
As part of the anniversary festivities, the NHIA organized free medical screenings and blood donation events. The use of the mobile short code for NHIS registrations saw a notable increase, instilling optimism within the NHIA that the MyNHIS App will significantly bolster their membership drive.
In a commendable gesture commemorating the anniversary, the West Gonja NHIS district office, in collaboration with the Municipal Department of Social Welfare, offered free registrations and renewals to indigents and the elderly in the regional capital.
