A USA based philanthropic group known as Compassion Takes Action has handed over a hand pump borehole to Grumakura Community in the West Gonja Municipality.
The group also presented some clothing and relief items to the community members.
Grumakura is a small farming community settled in the outskirts of Damongo along the Damongo Tamale Road with a population size of about 300 people.
The community has lived several years without access to portable drinking water.
Members of the community have to trek several miles before getting assess water from a stream which they share with livestock. The water crisis in Grumakura becomes even more serious during the dry seasons.
It was a big relief to the people of Grumakura when a hand pump borehole was handed over to them on Monday 20th June, 2022 by the USA based philanthropic group accompanied by the MCE for West Gonja Municipal Hon. Karim Musah Kusubari.
At a short ceremony before the handing over of the borehole, the MCE for West Gonja Municipality Hon Karim Musah Kusubari expressed gratitude to Compassion Takes Action group for providing a borehole for one of the communities in his Municipality.
According to the MCE, people of Grumakura have always appealed to him to provide potable drinking water for them anytime he visited the community hence the reason he directed Compassion Takes Action to situate the borehole in Grumakura when Compassion Takes Action asked him to give them a community where they can drill the borehole.
Hon. Musah Kusubari also appealed to Compassion Takes Action to continue to extend their hand of support to the West Gonja Municipality as about seven communities within the West Gonja are still without access to potable drinking water.
The Husband of the President of the USA based philanthropic group known as Compassion Takes Action spoke on behalf of his wife Mrs. Tracey Sam and thanked the Municipal Chief Executive of the West Gonja Municipal Assembly and said the provision of the borehole has brought two different people from the USA and Ghana together as one family.
He added that even though it was difficult mobilizing funds to construct the borehole, but they are happy that the borehole will bring the water crisis in Grumakura to an end.
The chief of the community, Chamba Dunaa thanked Compassion Takes Action and the MCE for West Gonja for solving the water crisis in the community and assured them that the community will take good care of the borehole.
