The Savannah regional minister Mr Salifu Adam Braimah have provided some relief items to households affected by the spillage of the Bagre dam in the North Gonja district of the Savannah Region.
The Regional Minister, visited some of the communities to sympathized with the victims and to access the extent of devastation.
Mr. Salifu Braimah lamented about the impact of the floods on livelihoods of the people as well as ongoing developmental projects in the district.
The Minister appealed to residents living close to the river banks to move to avoid any future disaster.
The Savannah Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Mohammed Tahiru disclosed that, a four year old child has died and more than 750 residents in nine communities have been displaced in the district following spillage of the Bagre dam.
Most of the affected victims have been provided with shelter at the Wasipe Senior High School while others have joined their relatives who have not been affected he said.
According to Mr Tahiru, NADMO has advised travelers to use an alternative route from Daboya through Busunu to Tamale, adding that, residents have been cautioned not to cross over the water to nearby communities.
He appealed to individuals and organizations to come to the aid of residents in the area.
