West Gonja Municipal Observes National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving with a Call for Renewal and Accountability.

Christians and Muslims in the West Gonja Municipality joined the rest of the nation on Tuesday to observe the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving under the theme: “Reset, Reflect, and Renew for National Prosperity.” The event, which coincided with Republic Day, was instituted by President John Dramani Mahama as a moment for national introspection, gratitude, and spiritual renewal.
In Damongo, the Christian prayer session was led by Very Reverend Amadu Razack, Head Pastor of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Damongo Society. He called on Ghanaians—regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or religious belief—to embrace the day as an opportunity to renew their minds, attitudes, and collective commitment to national purpose.

“Let the mind of Christ be in you,” Reverend Razack preached, quoting Philippians Chapter 2. “Ghana needs a renewal of mind and a change in our attitude towards wealth and nationhood. Without a mindset shift, no amount of prayer will save this country.”
He decried the widespread culture of corruption, criticizing individuals who misuse public resources while maintaining a façade of religious devotion. “They sit in mosques on Fridays and in churches on Sundays, praising God after stealing from the nation,” he said. “There can be no justice or prosperity without accountability.”

Rev. Razack also urged religious leaders to speak truth to power, regardless of political consequences. “Some fear losing favor or access, but God is crying out for justice and righteousness. Without them, true development will remain out of reach for Ghana.”
The Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe, who participated in the event, echoed Reverend Razack’s sentiments. He called on faith leaders to boldly hold political actors accountable. “When politicians lose their way, the nation suffers,” he cautioned. “You have a sacred duty to speak the truth without fear or favor.”
Hon. Be-Awuribe emphasized the value of national unity, particularly in the ethnically diverse Savannah Region. He praised Ghana’s enduring peace and stability in the face of global turbulence. “We thank God for peace—something many nations around the world do not enjoy,” he stated.

The Minister also used the platform to highlight the growing issue of drug abuse among the youth, describing it as a serious threat to families, communities, and the nation’s future. He urged all stakeholders to join in combating the menace.
In his closing prayer, Hon. Be-Awuribe called for divine guidance for President Mahama, asking God to endow him with the wisdom needed to lead Ghana through a period of renewal and progress. “May the President be led by God’s vision as he resets the course of this nation,” he said, encouraging faith communities to continually uplift the country in prayer.

The interfaith gathering brought together worshippers from across Damongo and beyond. More than a spiritual exercise, the event served as a national call to moral responsibility and unity as essential pillars for Ghana’s future progress.
