800 school furniture have been distributed by West Gonja municipality in 2022 – MCE

The MCE for West Gonja Municipality Hon Karim Musah Kusubari expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of the area for their support and cooperation during the year 2022 and urged them to sustain the love, support and peaceful coexistence for sustainable growth and development. He said the world has been bedeviled with socioeconomic challenges, which is affecting the pace of development. However, out of the seeming challenges, the assembly has carried some important activities to help improve some important sectors.
Education is the key to unlocking the dark future amongst children and the youth. The current and future of the country depends on how well education is managed.
At the beginning of this year, one could observe that there were classrooms in some schools with inadequate furniture. The assembly, as part of it’s mandate to improve education made available 600 classroom furniture which the office, together with the education directorate and municipal planners distributed to the various schools to ensure they all benefit.
The MCE added that with the help of the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor, the assembly also reached out to GETFUND to secure 200 pieces of furniture, 50 of which were given to the Damongo Agriculture College and the rest distributed to the basic schools.
The West Gonja municipality is also putting up a technical and vocational school, where students can learn carpentry and joinery, dressmaking, weaving and other vocational skills. This will help create more employment opportunities and limit reliance on white collar jobs.
Musah Kusubari told PAD FM at his office in Damongo that the structure is half way to completion with extension of electricity and accommodation for teachers to be added in 2023. The assembly hopes to use the candidates awaiting their basic school results to start the school upon its completion.
He added that the living quarters (Bungalow) of the director of education has been renovated with updated facilities.
Each year, the assembly support some students to pay school fees. Musah Kusubari explained that this year, the assembly received a lot of applications for support from brilliant but needy students. Out of the numbers, 116 needy students were helped to pay school fees, with available records and photocopies of their documents to show.
He assured the West Gonja municipality will continue supporting students in 2023 and beyond with the hope to cover more students.
Damongo Nurses Training College will add more courses to their academic calendar to offer wide variety of choices to qualified candidates. Musah Kusubari said from January 2023, the West Gonja municipal assembly will work harder to add midwifery courses to the nurses training college in Damongo.
“We are working on the accreditation and I can assure you that the Damongo NTC will start midwifery courses in 2023. The assembly is therefore planning on putting up a three unit classroom block for the nursing training college next year”.
Also, the assembly will work on 100 tables and chairs for teachers in the coming year. The GES will also receive 100 tables and 80 chairs for the kindergarten schools.
He disclosed to PAD FM that as part of activities to help improve capacity building of actors in the education sector, the education directorate will be given two projectors to aid capacity building activities and workshops. The office of the director of education will also be fixed with modern air conditions to promote the welfare of workers in the sector.
