In a heartening show of community support, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Gonja, Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, has donated 50 bags of 50kg maize to Larabanga Islamic Senior High School. The donation, made on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the school premises, is intended to ease the food shortages currently affecting the institution.
During a recent visit to the school, Hon. Castro was briefed on the challenges facing students, particularly the issue of inadequate food supplies. In response, he collaborated with the Municipal Coordinating Director and the Municipal Director of Agriculture to swiftly organize support. The 50 bags of maize represent a significant step toward meeting the nutritional needs of the students.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Castro stressed the importance of student welfare: “It’s difficult to study on an empty stomach. A hungry man is an angry man, and children cannot cope with learning if they’re hungry.” He reassured the school’s administration that additional assistance would be provided in due course.
The headteacher of Larabanga Islamic SHS, Mr. Seidu Danaba, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a major relief. He noted that the donation would significantly improve the teaching and learning environment by ensuring students are properly nourished.
Larabanga Islamic SHS, a relatively new institution, was established by the Nana Addo administration in fulfillment of a campaign promise made by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Since admitting its first cohort of students in 2024, the school has witnessed rapid growth.
Mr. Danaba also made an appeal for further support, particularly in the areas of staffing, infrastructure, and educational resources. He called on the people of Larabanga to take pride in the school and rally behind it to elevate its status to that of established schools within the municipality and the wider region.
Hon. Castro’s donation reflects the West Gonja Municipal Assembly’s ongoing commitment to supporting education in the district. As Larabanga Islamic SHS continues to develop, collaboration among stakeholders will be vital to ensuring students have access to quality education and the resources they need to succeed.
